Our second Cook Off Family Night, so far this school year, was a great success. We ordered dinner from one of our local Chinese favorites (Kwon’s), gave away prizes, made a ton of crafts and judged the CookOff contestants’ Asian inspired entries including beef stir fry, lychee rice pudding, and veggie tempura.
By far, everyone’s favorite thing was the giant dragon, made by our very own Vice President (Yesica Monnarrez). And once again our “Best in Show” pyrography spoon was created and donated by acclaimed local Pomona artist, Paul Nguyen.
Many of the kids worked to create origami cranes (a much harder task than originally anticipated) for the upcoming Chinese New Year on January 23rd.
We’re already gearing up for our next Family Night in February in honor of Black History Month…continuing our celebration of diversity, it’s our African American Heritage CookOff. I hear our President, Chara Nicole Swodeck may be making Gumbo.
